Cherry Orchard Rain Cover Used for 5 Years – Real Installation from Our Customer
These photos are from one of our customers who grows cherries.
The rain cover system you see in the picture has already been used in the orchard for around five years.
The grower did not only install the rain cover. In the same system he also used bird net, shade net and ground mulch film, plus some small accessories like C hooks, clips and elastic ropes to fix everything together.
It is not a complicated structure, but it works well in the field and the customer is still using it now.
When you walk inside the orchard you can see rows of steel pipes built over the cherry trees. Steel wires run across the structure. These wires are important because many materials are fixed on them.
The rain cover film is installed above the trees. For cherries this is quite common now. If rain falls directly on the fruit when it is close to harvest, cherries can crack very easily. Because of this many growers prefer to build some kind of rain protection.
In this orchard the film is fixed on the wire using C hooks. The hook simply hangs on the steel wire and holds the material. It is a very small accessory but very useful during installation. Workers can put it on quickly and also remove it easily if something needs to be adjusted later.
According to the customer, these hooks have been outside for years already and they are still usable.
Above the rain cover there is another layer, which is the bird net.
Birds are a big problem for cherry growers. Once the fruit starts turning red, birds will come very quickly. Without protection the loss can be quite serious.
The bird net in this orchard is fixed in a simple way. The edge of the net is held by shade net clips. From the clip there is an elastic rope, and the rope is locked onto the steel wire with a small buckle. Because the rope is elastic, the net can move a little when wind comes, so it is less likely to tear.
In some parts of the orchard the grower also added shade net.
This is mainly for strong sunlight during hot days. The shade net does not cover everything, only some sections where the grower thinks extra shading helps.
If you look at the ground in the photo you will also notice black mulch film laid along the tree rows. This is also very common in fruit orchards. The film helps stop weeds, keeps moisture in the soil and makes the orchard floor easier to manage.
So in this field several materials are used together:
• rain cover film above the trees
• bird net on the top
• shade net in some areas
• mulch film on the ground
and small installation parts like C hooks, clips and elastic ropes
After about five years of use the structure is still stable and the system is still working normally, which is why the customer shared these photos with us.
