How Farmers Protect Young Seedlings from Animals and Cold
What Happens If Young Seedlings Are Not Protected
In many orchards and farms, young seedlings look small and simple, but actually they are the most sensitive stage of the plant.
If nothing is used to protect them, problems come very easily.
The first problem is animals.
Rabbits, chickens, goats or even small wild animals like to chew the tender bark.
Once the bark is bitten, the seedling may stop growing. Some trees cannot recover.
The second problem is cold wind and low temperature.
Young seedlings have very thin bark. When cold wind hits directly, the plant loses moisture quickly. In early spring or winter, this can slow the growth or even damage the young shoots.
Another common problem is moisture loss.
Without any cover or protection around the base, soil dries faster. Young roots cannot hold water well, so seedlings become weak.
In short, many farmers find that if seedlings are left completely exposed, survival rate is much lower.
How Farmers Usually Protect Young Trees
Different farms use different methods, but the idea is simple: give the seedling a small protection area.
Some farmers use plastic tree guards.
This is a tube or sheet around the trunk to stop animals from biting.
Some people use plastic nets.
The net allows air and sunlight to pass but keeps animals away.
Others use film or cover material near the seedling to reduce wind and keep moisture.
In many orchards, farmers also use a small stick or support to keep the material in place.
It does not need to be complicated. The goal is just to protect the young plant during the early stage.
A Simple Solution Many Farmers Use
At FengCheng Plastic, we produce agricultural films and agricultural nets for farms.
Some customers asked for a very simple solution to protect seedlings, so we started making small protection pieces.
One option is HDPE woven film.

We cut the woven film into 50 × 50 cm square pieces according to customer needs.
Farmers can place the sheet around the seedling and use a small stick to fix it.
This helps in several ways.
It can reduce animal biting.
It also blocks cold wind and helps keep some warmth and moisture around the plant.
Another option is agricultural net made from HDPE and PP material.

This net can also be cut into 50 × 50 cm pieces.
Farmers use simple ties or straps to wrap the net around the young tree.
The net is open structure, so air and rain can pass through.
But rabbits or other small animals cannot easily reach the trunk.
Some growers like this way because it is very simple.
Just wrap the net around the young tree and fix it with a tie.
When the tree grows bigger, the net can be removed and used again.
In real orchards, seedlings are not always the same size.
Spacing between trees is also different from farm to farm.
Because of this, some customers ask us to cut the material in advance.
They don’t want to bring big rolls to the field and cut there.
So we prepare small pieces like 50 × 50 cm.
Workers can just take one piece and install it directly on the seedling.
For many farmers, simple and quick is more important than complicated solutions.
Every orchard is different, so protection methods are also different.
If you are looking for simple materials like HDPE woven film or agricultural protection nets, FengCheng Plastic can prepare them according to your size requirements.

Rain is not the biggest problem. Wind is.
In some areas, strong wind comes several times every year. After some time, the rain cover may get damaged, torn, or worn out because of the wind.
To help solve this problem, we made a new rain cover design. It can reduce wind pressure and still keep the rain out.
