What Really Decides Weed Mat Quality? Not Just Material
How Water Loom Woven Weed Mat Is Made (Real Production Notes)
When people use weed mat, most just look at the result.
Like, can it stop grass or not, how long it can last.
But actually, the production process affects a lot.
This is not theory, just our real production flow, step by step.
1. Raw Material + Flat Yarn Making
We use PP or PE raw material.
Material goes into machine, heated, melted, then extruded into film.
After that, the film is stretched and slit into flat yarn.
This step is basic, but very important:
- Stretch ratio → affects strength
- Temperature → affects stability
- UV added or not → affects outdoor lifetime
If yarn quality is not good, weaving later cannot fix it.
2. Weaving on Water Loom
Flat yarn goes into water loom for weaving.
Machine runs fast, yarn goes one by one, cross together, become fabric.
Main control points here:
- Warp and weft tension
- Structure stability
- Fabric comes out as flat sheet directly
At this stage, we already decide:
- Weight (GSM)
- Density
- Small gaps (this affects water flow and weed control)
3. Water System During Weaving
Water loom uses water during weaving.
Not for processing, just helping:
- Reduce friction
- Reduce static
- Take away heat
Because of this, yarn runs more stable, less break.
Fabric surface also looks more even.
4. Rolling After Weaving
After fabric is made, it goes to rolling.
Need to control:
- Tension (too tight → deform, too loose → not stable)
- Roll shape
- Edge condition
Looks simple, but if not controlled well, later cutting and use will have problem.
5. Water Squeezing (Important Step)
Because of water in weaving, fabric is still wet after rolling.
If pack directly:
- Inside roll will be wet
- Smell after storage
- Uneven tension inside
So we do squeezing.
Use rollers to press and push water out.
After this:
- Roll becomes more stable
- Easier for packing
- Safer for transport
This step does not change structure, but affects final condition a lot.
6. Edge Cutting
During weaving, both sides have rough edges.
If keep:
- Edge not straight
- Easy to split
- Looks not clean
So before packing, we cut both sides.
After cutting:
- Clean edge
- Accurate width
- Easier installation in field
7. Simple Converting (If Needed)
Depends on customer use, we can do:
- Cut to different width
- Add planting lines
- Make holes
- Adjust roll length
These do not change the fabric, just make it easier to use.
Final Note
Water loom woven weed mat is not just “weave and finish”.
From yarn → weaving → water control → squeezing → cutting
every step affects the final result.
Some products may look similar, but actual performance can be quite different.
We are Fengcheng Plastic.
Besides weed mat made by water loom, we also make:
- truck tarpaulin
- transparent woven greenhouse film
- rain shelter cover
- livestock curtain
- woven weed control fabric
Different products, different setup. Same idea — control from raw material to final roll.

Rain is not the biggest problem. Wind is.
In some areas, strong wind comes several times every year. After some time, the rain cover may get damaged, torn, or worn out because of the wind.
To help solve this problem, we made a new rain cover design. It can reduce wind pressure and still keep the rain out.
